Then She Found Me borders on “Fresh”

Then She Found Me has gotten some incredible reviews and buzz lately, particularly for Hunt’s work behind and in front of the screen and Bette Midler’s sensational performance. Currently, it sits at 60% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes but as the film enters a wider release tomorrow that number is likely to shift. The critics that really matter, including L.A. Times, New York Times, New York Post, New Yorker, Chicago Tribune, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter, have given out nothing but praise for the film. Be sure to check out Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic to read more in-depth reviews. Also, review a recent ad campaign from ThinkFilm here.

Here are a few highlights:

“A smart, subtle and seriously funny dramedy bound to find favor with sophisticated auds.”

- Joe Leydon, Variety

“Hunt’s performance is terrific and far more nuanced than her Oscar-winning turn in As Good as It Gets. As an actress, she helps make her director look very good indeed.”

- Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly

“It falls to Ms. Hunt to stir these character types and clichéd situations into a palatable stew of genuine human emotions. As April cautiously makes her way, you can feel Ms. Hunt, both as director and actor, discarding sitcom conventions to shoot for something deeper and truer.”

- Stephen Holden, The New York Times

“While Hunt’s directing debut is promising, if understated, it’s her performance as schoolteacher April Epner that impresses the audience.”

- Paula Nechak, Seattle Post-Intelligencer

“A beauty of a movie. Hilarious! Heartfelt and achingly true. Award-caliber acting.”

- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone

“Warm, entertaining and appealing; a testament to Hunt’s skills behind the camera.”

- Carina Chocano, Los Angeles Times

“Captivating! A soulful, dark-edge comedy boasts stellar performances by Hunt, Firth, Broderick, and Midler.”

- Karen Durbin, Elle Magazine
